Discover the Semois Gin
Semois Gin captures the essence of the wild, untamed beauty of the Semois Valley. The earthy notes of mistletoe and herbaceous wild garlic form a robust base, while the freshness of pine and peppermint provide balance, evoking the feeling of a walk through the woods. A taste of carnation completes the blend with its delicate floral essence, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication. This unique flower is an hommage to the rich history of the Bouillon Castle.
The story of the carnation: l'œillet du château
The little pink carnations (~oeillets) that brighten the gray castle walls in May and June are not just any flowers... According to legend, none other than Godfrey of Bouillon provided this bright accent. One day, in the year 1099 in Jerusalem, the dying Godfrey gave a bag of carnation seeds to Aloys, one of his most loyal crusaders. Those seeds were actually meant to brighten his own tomb, but Godfrey himself wanted otherwise. He ordered Aloys to bring the seeds to Bouillon and have them brighten up the castle. The little pink flowers, he said, will remind man forever of the story of the Crusades. After weeks of traveling the roads of Turkey, Italy and France, Aloys arrived in Bouillon and fulfilled his mission. Even today, as if by magic, these flowers grow every year on the castle walls, but nowhere else.
